Memento Park - Visiting Hungary's History

memento_park_logo_voros_thumb.jpg
Up to the time of the political changes in Hungary, a little over a decade ago, the cultural decor was far different from what visitors and residents see throughout the city today.

Some of that "culture" was preserved by the icons representing it that were gathered in "Memento Park" to be viewed by the scholar and/or the curious among us.

Memento Park displays the actual statues that decorated the streets and squares of Budapest.

The Red Star gift shop offers visitors and opportunity to own some of the paraphernalia such as Soviet souvenirs, wristwatches, flasks, cigarette-lighters and other personal items, fun t-shirts and mugs, postcards, posters depicting the "wise men" of communism or their slogans.

Exhibitions and short films may be viewed in the Barracks Theater on the premises. The Park is open year-round and may be visited by a direct bus connecting it with Deak Ter in the downtown area. Bus schedules and admission information - please click here.

Beauty Tip

Calendula Infused Soy Oil

Ingredients
1/2 cup dried calendula flowers
3/4 to 1 cup organic soybean oil
Vitamin E oil
Orange essence oil

Instructions:
Place flowers in an 8-ounce Mason jar; pour in soybean oil until jar is nearly full. Drizzle with Vitamin E oil and mix with a wooden stirrer. Seal jar tightly.

Place in a paper bag or cool, dark cupboard for at least two weeks to let herbs infuse the oil. With a wire mesh strainer, strain oil into a sterilized jar. Strain again through a cheesecloth or coffee filter.

Drizzle finished oil with 2 to 3 drops orange essence oil, if desired.

The following list of on-line cookie recipes was making the circuits a few years back in Christmas mailers. I was fascinated by it then and still am so I thought I would share it with those of you who love cookies.
