BYP -- Summer 2007

Even if you were too busy during the past few weeks, you knew it was coming. Temperatures persistently climbed into the high 80's and visited the 90s frequently enough - it was hard to miss the fact that summer is fast approaching.

On June 21 it will officially arrive. Some of you will be spending the summer in Budapest working or just relaxing (lucky dogs). Others will be making their way out of town for vacations or home visits to far away places. Think of us - we'll be thinking of you! Right!

Before we all head in different directions let's get together for a farewell dinner in a cozy neighborhood gathering place in the 7th district. They have a small outdoor terrace and with any luck we could all fit. Then again, we may prefer the AC inside(?) Food is plentiful and not pricey and the beer is cold.

June 20th, 7:00 p.m. we'll be looking for any of you interested in coming out to join us for a toast to summer. The restaurant is an easy walk from the Mester utca stop on the 4/6 tram. TimeOut is located on the corner of Liliom and Tuzolto utcas. RSVP please, if you are planning to join us!

July 4th - This year all July 4th parties are being very limited and it occurred to me too late to begin and plan for one. Next year! If you feel like celebrating join us at the end of the line of the Cog Wheel Railway where there is a very simple local restaurant with a terrace where we can sit and enjoy dinner and drinks. RSVP please, if you are planning to join us and details will be forwarded.

June 23, 2007 is the Night of the Museums If any of you is interested in going as a group, start making plans and I'll coordinate or assist you in coordinating a program.

June 30, 2007 Just a little gem for music and nature lovers. If you would like a fun evening for virtually no charge, grab a friend, blanket, wine (not necessarily in that order) and mosquitoes repellent and head for Margaret Island. As a part of the Budapest Summer Open Air Festival an operetta (J. Strauss: One Night in Venice) will be staged at the open air theater in the middle of the island starting at 8:30 p.m.

There is a bus stop so you won't even have to wear yourself out getting there. Find a nice grassy spot and soon you will have plenty of neighbors. Don't forget the corkscrew and PLEASE behave!

If you, like me, have been meaning to but not yet had a chance to see An Inconvenient Truth, June 18th may be the time to do so. The Taban cinema is showing it in Buda at 6 p.m.

Speaking of movies, I'm still hoping to catch Blood Diamond, Miss Potter, The Last King of Scotland.... if any of you would care to join me let me know.

The following list of on-line cookie recipes was making the circuits a few years back in Christmas mailers. I was fascinated by it then and still am so I thought I would share it with those of you who love cookies.

Chill the milk and let's begin.
