15th Annual Budapest Int'l Wine and Champagne Festival

The Festival will be held again this year, at the befittingly festive spot of the Buda Castle Terraces, for the 15th year next week-end. The many activities connected with the actual tasting between September 6-10, will begin today, on the 1st of September 2006. Here are some of the highlights of the upcoming programmes:

House of Hungarian Culture Foundation

Everyone is welcome at the popular Wine Academy whether it is their first time or something they attend annually. In its seventh year, the Academy offers a three-day course packed with interesting, up-to-date lectures by well known, wine tastings, providing useful information for both wine lovers and experts wishing to extend their knowledge.

Price: HUF 2,000/person/day (appr. EUR 7.15)
You can buy it at the Cashiers in Buda Castle during the Exhibition.
Unrestricted multiple entrance to and exit from the area of the Wine Exhibition and Fair. Valid only on the day of purchase. Includes an official tasting glass (made of glass), a glass-bearing bag and two tasting tickets. Torn or stuck together armbands are invalid, so please take care of them!

Entrance ticket
Discount tickets for the Festival can be bought in advance for HUF 1,700 between 1-10 September, 2006 from 11 am to 7 pm at our Vintage Wagon information desk on Vörösmarty Square. On validation an official tasting glass (made of glass), a glass-bearing bag and an armband ensuring unrestricted multiple entrance and exit for that day only is given. Torn or stuck together armbands are invalid, so please take care of them!

Tasting ticket
Price: HUF 80 and HUF 800.
You can buy them at the Information Pavilions in Buda Castle during the Exhibition. The tasting ticket is the official means of payment at the Wine Exhibition and Fair. Wines and food at the exhibitors’ stands can only be bought and tasted with these tickets. Exhibitors may ask for more than one tasting ticket dependent on the value of the wine or food. Tasting tickets can be purchased for forints from all information stands and mobile vendors in the whole area of the Wine Exhibition and Fair.

Other information

1. The lift at the National Széchényi Library will operate daily between 9 am – 12 midnight during the Wine Exhibition and Fair.

2. Wine bus: a special bus service will directly link the two venues of the Festival, Buda Castle and the Hungarian Open Air Museum in Szentendre (Skanzen), on Saturday and Sunday, 9-10 September.

Buda Castle-Skanzen 1, 3, 5 pm
Skanzen-Buda Castle 2, 4, 6 pm
Bus station in Buda Castle: Dísz Square, beginning of the Színház Street
Ticket price: HUF 450

3. During the whole event the Maltese Charity Service will provide first aid cover next to the Sopron pavilion at the Lions’ Courtyard’s entrance.

4. A security service will operate day and night to ensure safety and order at the event.

5. Staff at the information pavilions in the Wine Exhibition and Fair will provide assistance and information.

6. A child care facility will operate between 10 am-6 pm during the Wine Exhibition and Fair.

7. Lost property may be handed in at the central information desk next to the passageway in the Hunyadi Courtyard.

8. Sound and picture recordings of the event will be made. All participants on the recordings may only be named with their consent, but no claim may be made against the maker of the recording or the organisers.

9. Sound and picture recordings may only be made with the written permission of the organisers.

10. It is forbidden to conduct any commercial or advertising activity within the area of the event without the written permission of the organisers.

11. The washroom facilities are free of charge.

12. The organisers reserve the right to change the programme.

13. Special taxi service with reduced tariff and without waiting due to our partner Taxi 2000. More information at the information desk next to the cashiers on the Szent György street.

14. Chauffeur service by Arthur Chauffeur Service. They drive your car home from the Buda Castle. More information at the information desk next to the cashiers on the Szent György street.
