Movie Review: Vanity Fair - 2004

vanityfair.jpg
Generally my movie choices are prompted by instinct, as it was this time. Unfortunately, the day we chose to see this movie I was not feeling particularly well and had thoughts about canceling the date. Glad that I did not.

The sets and costumes as well as casting was captivating from the first moment. As the bittersweet story began to unforld my emotions were caught up with the thread. The fight of the witty and rebellious girl quickly became personal.

At some point there was a strong recognition of the similarities between Sense and Sensibilities, but since that too is among my favorite movies - it did not distract from the value. Perhpas it was at the same time when I've allowed my thoughts to wander away when I realized that despite the fact that I had not felt well - this movie was good enough to make me forget all about it.

There were lessons along the way of humanity, friendship, noble souls and the price of success. There was no happy ending, but there was a mitigation of losses which is probably closer to reality.

All in all - this was a wonderful investment of the price and the two and a half hours. Not strictly a romantic story but definitely a winner for a date movie.

Instructions:
Place flowers in an 8-ounce Mason jar; pour in soybean oil until jar is nearly full. Drizzle with Vitamin E oil and mix with a wooden stirrer. Seal jar tightly.
